The ceremony is held in the morning at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Palace or Holyrood when the Queen visits Scotland in July. It is important to be smart and respectful to the Royal Family and your surroundings. You don’t want to look like you are going to a wedding by being too flowery or wearing evening dress or anything too low cut or short.

I didn't need to worry about what to wear. I have my trusty steed in the wardrobe. The jacket that has taken me to weddings and Christenings and No.10 and everywhere in between. The investment Armani piece that cost an arm and a leg years and years ago. It will be perfect for tea with the Queen.....Blast!

So provided you aren’t opposed to wearing light-colored shoes in a grassy area, a nice off-white or bone-colored shoe would very much compliment your outfit and the summer season. Another color option would be a soft grey or matte pewter– colors that looks fantastic paired with lavender and other shades of purple.

I wore a skirt suit (long pencil skirt, long jacket and blouse) - not trendy in the least but a safe 'classic', suitable for interviews, funerals and investitures ! Didn't wear a hat, but had my hair pinned up and some sore of flower hair clip, or something. 2 of my other sister's wore hats but I didn't feel out of place so if hats aren't your thing, don't feel obliged.
